Thirty campsites at Julian Price Campground will reopen August 15 following months of cleanup from Hurricane Helene, according to the National Park Service.
All available sites are in Loop A and can be reserved through October 31st at recreation.gov. No first-come, first-served options will be offered this season.
Located at Milepost 297 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Grandfather Mountain and Linville Gap, the campground has been closed since Helene brought down trees and debris last year. Arborist crews from Rocky Mountain and Great Smoky Mountains national parks, along with Blue Ridge Parkway staff and volunteers, worked through spring and summer to clear hazards and prepare for this limited reopening.
Other campground loops will remain closed for the 2025 season while crews repair the water system and continue large-scale tree and debris removal. The comfort station in Loop A will be open, but the shower building will remain closed.
Visitors are urged to avoid closed areas, where unseen hazards and heavy equipment are still present, and to be cautious on nearby trails, which may have storm damage such as debris, washed-out sections, or damaged bridges.
For current parkway conditions, maps, and recovery updates, visitors can go to go.nps.gov/Helene.
