Dale Miller, age 72, of the Lower Brown’s Creek Community, left this walk of life doing what he loved to do and went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 14th, 2025. A native of Yancey County, He was a son of the late John Wesley and Viola Shelton Miller. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Biddix Miller and a sister, Helen Buckner.
Dale enjoyed working in sawmills, after retiring from Parker Lumber he continued working in the industry on his own. He thrived in the outdoors. Dale could almost always be found on a lake fishing or setting around a campfire, telling stories and spending time with his Buddies. Above all Dale was an exceptional man; always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends in his community. He cherished being the best “Papaw” to his granddaughter Libby that he knew how to be.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters: Amanda Miller Palacios and husband Alejo, of Asheville and Anita Autrey, of Burnsville; a son, Johnathon Banks of Burnsville; grandchildren: Elizabeth Lee Kennedy, Jamie Berry and wife Tessie, of Fort Pierce, Florida; Jessica Ann Berry, Abigail Autrey (Jackson), Nathan Autrey (Rebecca); great-grandchildren: Ayden, Mia and Brayden; siblings: J.W., Charles and Sammy Miller, Jeannie Miller Kaulf and Gloria Hudgins; a special niece, Aimee Drake and special friend, Teresa Blevins.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd at Yancey Funeral Services. A graveside service will follow in the Carroway Cemetery, on South Toe. Reverend Jamie Honeycutt will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Jamie Berry, Nathan Autrey, Johnny, Tony and Joey Miller, Rodney Wilson, Nicholas McKinney and Danny Buckner.
