Dorothy “Dot” Deyton

Dorothy “Dot” L. Black Deyton, age 94 of Burnsville, NC, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Born on June 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ephraim Clayton Black and Bertha Geneva Styles, both of Burnsville, NC. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by the father of her children, D.C. Deyton; her son, Donald Deyton; brothers: Hardy (Pauline) Black, Charles (Zoe) Black, John (Evaline) Black, Luther (Nell) Black, and Ralph (Inez) Black; sisters: Helen (Fred) Derby, Anne (Carl) Penland, Grace (Albert) Rogers, Margaret (Dudley) Deyton, Mary Louise (Wayne) Silcox, and Virginia (Jesse) Joines.

Dot was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held leadership positions in the Relief Society – Woman’s Organization, the Primary Children’s Organization, and was Nursery Leader for the 18-month-old – 3 years old children for many years. She had a special love for children. Dot was a hard worker in the office at Glen Raven until her retirement at 72, and at home. She loved to garden, preserve food, and spend time with her family.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her daughter, Debbie (Robert) Deyton Puett and her grandchildren: Brandi Deyton of Marion, Bradley Deyton, Clayton Carlson, and Clint (Sydni) Carlson, all of Burnsville; granddaughter, Cecilia McKinney of Spruce Pine:  grandson: Kyle (Katie) Carlson of Payson, Utah; and great-grandchildren: Braley Deyton, Brentley Deyton, Branley Deyton, Breley Deyton, Finn Carlson, Laila Carlson, and Arthur Carlson, all of Burnsville, NC, as well as Eleanor Dot Carlson of Payson, Utah.

The family would like to say special thanks to the wonderful and caring workers at Smoky Ridge who became like family during a difficult time; as well as the kind staff at Compassionate Care of WNC in Burnsville.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, N.C. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Monday, September 1, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held the following day on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Bishop Robert Puett will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Holcombe Cemetery in Burnsville, NC.
