Hannie Hensley Peterson, age 86, of the Ramseytown Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 5th, 2025. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Alethia Bryant Hensley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Peterson, who passed away in 2003; a son, Michael “Mike” Peterson; son-in-law, William Foreback; siblings: Doug Hensley (Edelene), Geraldine Bradford (Fred) and David Hensley; and brother-in-law, Homer Laws.
Hannie was a faithful member of Landmark Baptist Church, where she loved to sing in the choir. Music was woven into her life, whether singing hymns with her church family or sitting at her piano at home. Her children grew up with the sweet sound of her songs filling the house, a constant reminder of her love and spirit. Each day, she found comfort and inspiration listening to the New Day program on WKYK, a testament of her deep faith in God.
Hannie’s talents extended beyond her music. With her gifted hands, she would crochet, sew and make quilts, all which will be cherished by those fortunate enough to have received these gifts from her. She loved tending her garden and flowers, and spent countless hours canning the fruits and vegetables she grew. But above all, Hannie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Surviving are her four children: Debra Foreback of Seven Hills, Ohio, Dennis Peterson of Ramseytown, Beverly Peterson of Madison, Ohio, and Randy Peterson of Ramseytown; grandson, Brendan Michel Peterson of Painesville, Ohio; granddaughter, Kayla Marie Peterson of Chicago, Illinois; three sisters: Lennie Laws (Lester “Junior” Laws) of Clearmont, Atlas Laws of Prices Creek, and Polly Whitson (Ralph) of Green Mountain; and sister-in-law, Brenda Swann (Mickey) of Bald Creek. Several other extended family also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th at Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10th, at Landmark Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Bradley and Rev. Scott Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the Randolph Family Cemetery on Bent Creek Road.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
