Compassionate Care WNC (CCWNC), in partnership with the Yancey County Health Department, will open the county’s first on-site Palliative Care Clinic later this month.
The walk-in clinic will be located at the Yancey County Health Department and will operate once a month from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning Thursday, September 25, 2025. CCWNC leaders say they hope to expand the clinic’s hours as demand grows.
Sharon Edwards, FNP-C, will provide care at the new clinic, which is designed for patients living with chronic conditions or serious illnesses. Unlike hospice, palliative care is focused on improving quality of life while patients continue curative treatment. Services address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and are tailored to each patient’s goals of care.
CEO Vern Grindstaff praised the collaboration that made the clinic possible, thanking Yancey Health Director Misty Randolph and CCWNC Access Coordinator Morgan Weaver for their efforts. He also recognized Laura Young, AGNP, who launched CCWNC’s palliative care program in 2016 and recently retired.
“Our community has supported us since 1982,” Grindstaff said. “This clinic is one more way we can give back to our family, neighbors, and friends.”
