Darla Buchanan Kegley, age 59, of the South Toe Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 19th, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Jerry Michael Buchanan and Sandra Kay Ball Buchanan. In addition to her father she was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Powell and Kay Ball; her paternal grandparents: David and Helen Buchanan; a brother, David Powell Buchanan; brother-in-law, Kevin Kegley; and her four-legged companion, Bender Kegley.
Darla had a giving heart and a compassionate spirit, qualities that shone brightly throughout her years as a nurse. She found joy in the beauty of nature and loved spending time outdoors, as well as cooking for her family and friends. Above all, Darla was a devoted mother who cherished her boys with all her heart.
Left to cherish Darla’s memory is her mother, Sandra Kay Ball Buchanan; her loving husband of 13 years, James Victor Kegley; sons: Jerod Mark Buchanan of Burnsville, NC and Nathaniel Mack Buchanan of Nashville, TN; brothers: Mike Buchanan (Johnie) of Asheville, NC and Brandon Buchanan (Daphne) of Burnsville, NC; nieces: Kearstin Buchanan and Tiffany Downer; nephew, Jeremy Buchanan; cousin, Michelle Garrison who was like a sister to Darla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 28th, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
