The Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate the reopening of Hef’s restaurant in downtown Spruce Pine, marking a major milestone in the community’s recovery from Hurricane Helene. Nearly one year after the devastating storm forced the popular eatery to close its doors, Hef’s has returned—restored, renewed, and ready to welcome back loyal customers and new visitors alike.

Hef’s has long been known as a local favorite for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food, drawing both Mitchell County residents and travelers from across the region. The reopening represents not only a business comeback, but also a powerful symbol of resilience and community spirit.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand reopening celebration at Hef’s. A large crowd of local leaders, residents, and supporters gathered downtown to cheer on the restaurant’s return and to be among the first to step inside the newly restored space.

“The reopening of Hef’s is a shining example of the strength and determination of our local business owners and our entire community,” said Bill Slagle, Executive Director of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce/Mitchell County EDC. “Nearly a year after Hurricane Helene, seeing Hef’s back in business is more than just the return of a great restaurant—it’s a reminder of the progress we’ve made together and the bright future ahead for downtown Spruce Pine.”

The Chamber invites the community to continue supporting Hef’s and all Mitchell County businesses as recovery efforts remain ongoing.
