The West Yancey Volunteer Fire Department is opening its training center– the former Bald Creek Tractor building located beside the fire department–to Funshine Camp, providing a welcoming space where joy, friendship, and community can thrive. The camp, which serves individuals with developmental disabilities, lost its longtime home at Patience Park when Hurricane Helene destroyed the facility.

This new partnership helps Funshine Camp continue its mission of love and inclusion, and leaders say they are honored to support a cause that brings light and hope to so many families.

Operation Helo has also stepped in, pledging to help establish a permanent campground for Funshine Camp to ensure its life-changing work continues for generations. The organization says it’s not just about building facilities—it’s about building futures filled with hope, resilience, and belonging.

Together, the West Yancey Fire Department, Operation Helo, and Funshine Camp are meeting today’s needs while investing in tomorrow’s joy.
