Helen Cooke, age 84, of the Pyatte Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 19th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Avery County, she was the daughter of Lambert and Alma Benfield.
Helen loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Big Meadows Missionary Baptist Church. She was an avid collector and was always finding treasures to enjoy. She loved tending to her flower garden and the bouquets she made from it. Most of all, she had a never-ending love for her family and spent a lifetime lovingly taking care of them. Cherished memories of her will be held close to their hearts, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Family meant everything to her, and she leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Oscar Cook, Jr. of Newland, NC; daughter, Lisa Daniels of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Terry Cooke of Newland; and three grandchildren: Josh Daniels (Ciara) of Oklahoma City, OK, Rebecca Kuhen (Mitch) of Hawaii, and Tim Daniels (Jamie) of Oklahoma City, OK.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th at Big Meadows Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Big Meadows Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
