Municipal elections wrapped up Tuesday across Mitchell and Yancey counties — with voters returning familiar faces to local offices.
In Bakersville, Charles E. Vines Senior was re-elected mayor with 60 votes, running unopposed. Matthew Staton and Gary Hyatt won the two council seats with 45 and 41 votes. Perry Wilson received 30 votes and Andy Palmer had 28 votes.
In Spruce Pine, Beth Holmes was also unopposed for mayor, earning 179 votes. Larry McKinney and Tessa Taylor captured the council seats, unopposed with 170 and 134 votes.
And in Burnsville, Mayor Russell Fox ran unopposed and stays in office after receiving 202 votes. Randy Ollis and Bill Wheeler were elected to the town council with 195 and 192 votes.
There were some write-in votes in nearly every race, but not enough to challenge the leading candidates.
