Ira Robinson

Ira Robinson, age 80, of the Double Island Community, passed away on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, at his home.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Lillie Thomas Robinson.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Brown, D.A., Dewey, Dorian, Harold, James and Wyman Robinson; sisters: Inez Anglin and Lois Woody; sisters-in-law: Betty Jo Robinson and Bernice Byrd.

Ira dedicated 38 years of service to the Town of Burnsville, working as a skilled mechanic and later as a valued foreman for the town’s Water Department. He possessed an incredible depth of knowledge in his work and took great pride in a job well done. In his free time, Ira could most often be found outdoors enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

He loved tending to his garden and caring for his berry plants. Those who knew Ira knew he was seldom without a chew of tobacco and that he greeted everyone with the same friendly, down-to-earth manner every time you saw him. He never met a stranger and loved to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.

Ira was a dedicated employee, a true friend and a loving husband who touched the lives of many through his kindness, hard work and genuine spirit.

Left to cherish the heartfelt memories of Ira are his loving wife, Emma Grace Lane Robinson; sister, Ila Kay Farris (Jim) of Lebanon, VA; brother: Lloyd Warner Robinson (Annette) of Chickapee, MA; sisters-in-law: Hope Robinson of Statesville, NC, Glenda Lee Simmons of Black Mountain, NC and Brenda Zepp of Rutherfordton, NC; brother-in-law, Ray Lane (Polly) of Burnsville.

A memorial service to honor the life and legacy of Ira will be held at later date.
