Congratulations to the Mitchell Miners wrestling team on a strong showing last night at Rosman.
The Miners wrestled well in a scrimmage with an always tough Madison team, and then dominated their first true match of the season, shutting out the host Tigers. Lawson Ayers recorded his first career win, and every Miner in action came away with a victory.
The Miner wrestling team will be right back at it again today at Cranberry for their first match of the season with Avery County. Match time is 5pm at Cranberry.
The high school team also traveled to Rosman for scrimmages with both Rosman and Maidson.
The first order of business was to honor the longtime Madison coach John Clark. Rosman’s entire team wore Red and Blue as a tribute to coach Clark, while Mitchell’s coaches and captains put aside their purple and wore Patriot Red, white, and blue in Coach Clark’s memory. A moment of silence was also observed to start the evening.
The matches were exciting for all!! The varsity women were a perfect 8-0 on the night, while the varsity men also had strong showings against both Madison and Rosman.
Mitchell High teams will have a bye week next week as they continue to train and await the arrival of several members of the team still involved with the state football playoffs. The Mountaineers will kick off the regular season November 18 against Asheville County and South Caldwell.
