Burn Ban Lifted in Yancey County

Local emergency management officials say the recent burn ban in Yancey County has now been lifted as weather conditions improve and fire danger decreases. However, they caution that it still may not be a good idea to burn outdoors today, with a forecast calling for strong winds and a wind advisory beginning at 7 p.m. tonight.

Residents are reminded that even though the ban is rescinded, safe burning practices are still required. Only vegetative material may be burned, and no trash or hazardous items should be placed in outdoor fires. Anyone planning to burn must obtain a burn permit beforehand and should never leave a fire unattended. Water, shovels, or other tools should be kept close by in case a fire begins to spread.

Emergency management officials say cooperation from the community remains essential to preventing wildfires and keeping neighborhoods safe.
