Harley Masters officially filed to run for her third term as Mitchell County Commissioner on Monday, December 1, the first day of filing at the Board of Elections.

“I am grateful for the trust the citizens of Mitchell County have placed in me for the past five years,” Masters said. “We still have so much work ahead of us post Helene and I humbly ask those voters for their continued support to finish what we’ve started together.”

The primary election is on Tuesday, March 3.

Masters and her husband John own and operate Roan View Farm and Roan View Mercantile in Bakersville.

As a commissioner she has formed relationships across counties in NC through her involvement in the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners where she currently serves as a member of the board of trustees. She has invested time in continuing education in best government practices on the county level in North Carolina, most notably graduating from the Advanced Leadership Corp program at the UNC School of Government.

Masters currently serves as a working member on many local, statewide and regional boards including the Extension Advisory Council, the Toe River Regional Library, the NC Association of County Commissioners Western District, the SafePlace Coordinated Community Response Committee, and the Mitchell County Tourism Development Authority, of which she was the founding Chair.  During her tenure she has served the High Country Rural Transportation Planning Organization, the High Country Council of Government, the High Country Council on Aging, and the Mitchell County Animal Shelter.

It’s been an honor to serve the citizens of Mitchell County, focusing on transparency and best practices so all have a voice in this beautiful place we all call home,” Masters said.
