Yancey County Standoff Ends With Suspect Shot

A standoff involving Yancey County deputies ended with a suspect being shot on George’s Fork Road.

According to the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence following a report of an assault on a female. During the encounter, deputies observed the suspect armed with a crossbow.

Authorities say a standoff followed. After a period of time, the suspect exited the residence with the crossbow loaded with an arrow and broadhead and pointed it at deputies. One deputy fired a single round, striking the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Brian Thomas Wilson of Yancey County, was airlifted to Mission Hospital for medical treatment. No deputies were injured.

The incident remains under investigation, and no further information is being released at this time
