The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles has expanded its operating hours at four part-time driver license offices. Four locations in rural and underserved areas of the state now have extended hours. This change aims to reduce wait times.
Effective today, the expansions in our area include:
- Spruce Pine (12027 N.C. Highway 226): Will now be open five days a week, operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Newland (301 Cranberry St): Will now be open five days a week, operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The other two offices are in Yanceyville and Pembroke. According to the NCDMV these adjustments are part of a larger initiative that aims to align staffing with customer demand, increase access in high-need areas, and improve overall service efficiency. The initiative also includes staffing increases at 56 offices statewide and ensures daily staffing at all service terminals in 19 high-demand locations.
