Marie Hughes Presnell, 99, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026. She was a daughter to the late Goodson and Tessie Hughes Riddle. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Vernon Presnell; a son, Glenn Presnell; granddaughter, Charlene Thomas; a sister, Bonnie Johnson; and brothers: Earl and Jack Hughes.
Marie worked as a dairy farmer alongside of her husband for many years and took great pride in the work they did. She was a faithful member of Double Island Baptist Church for over 45 years and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in her community through donations and giving money when needed.
Marie loved being outside working in her garden or mowing the lawn. In her free time, she enjoyed going to yard sales and watching football as an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Family was important to Marie; she cherished her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren equally and loved cooking meals for them to show her love.
She leaves behind a lifetime of love with her daughter, Midge McIntosh (Ronnie Vic); grandchildren: Jeannie Rathburn, Brian Presnell (Nikki) and Jeremy McIntosh (Vanessa); 12 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 16th, 2026 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Rick Woody, great-grandsons: Pastor Blake Glenn and Rev. Colby Presnell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 17th, 2026 in the Double Island Baptist Church Cemetery off of Double Island Road.
The Presnell family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to staff at the Hospice of the Blue Ridge and to Pruitt Health for the wonderful care and compassion that was given to them and Marie during this time.
