
In the early morning hours of Monday, deputies with the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office were conducting routine patrol when an traffic stop led to an arrest following a brief foot pursuit.
At approximately 2 am, Deputy Grayson Penland observed a Harley-Davidson motorcycle operating with a fictitious registration tag. Deputy Penland initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 South and Micaville Loop. The operator of the motorcycle was later identified as Christopher Davis.
During the initial interaction, Davis provided deputies with a false name. After a brief exchange, Davis fled the scene on foot. Deputy Penland and Deputy Isaac Ray pursued the suspect, who entered Crabtree Creek during the course of the pursuit.
Following an altercation in the creek, deputies were able to take Davis into custody. Despite frigid temperatures and hazardous conditions, both deputies continued the pursuit and apprehension while maintaining control of the situation.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Davis had been reported stolen.
Davis has been charged with Felony Possession Stolen Goods, Fictitious / False Information to an Officer, (2) Counts Injury to Personal Property, Drive While License Revoked Not Impaired, Felony Possession Methamphetamine, Possession Drug Paraphernalia, (2) Counts Resisting a Public Officer, and (3) Counts Failure to Appear on Misdemeanor.
Christopher Davis was transported to the Yancey County Detention Center, where he remains in custody under a No Bond Order. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
