Michael Gene Laws

Michael Gene Laws, a loving husband and father, passed away on February 17, 2026, at his residence. Born on October 7, 1946, in Yancey County, he dedicated his professional life to the furniture industry, demonstrating remarkable commitment and expertise throughout his career.

Mike was not only known for his industrious nature but also for his profound love for family and faith. He was a devoted member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he actively participated in the community and cherished his relationship with the Lord, always placing Him at the forefront of his life.

His memory lives on through his beloved wife, Patsy “Pat” Laws, and their two daughters, Lisa Sue Laws Patton and Tammy Laws. Mike took great pride in his role as a father and an exceptional grandfather to Casey and Josh Gouge; Great grandfather to Lyrik and Lillianna Gouge, Kora and Stiles Gouge, who brought him immense joy and fulfillment. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence Laws and sister Phyllis Allen, who will fondly remember their bond with him.

In addition to his family, Mike had a passion for hobbies that enriched his life. He enjoyed rebuilding older Chevy engines and woodworking, pursuits that reflected his skillful hands and creative spirit. Mike’s affection for his pet companion, Hobby, further showcased his nurturing demeanor.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Kathleen Laws; sister Cynthia Burleson.

A visitation will be held at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, NC, on February 19, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This will be followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Darrin Waldroup officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mike Gene Laws will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family will forever inspire those who knew him.
