Joyce Beauchamp

Joyce Ann McKinney Beauchamp died on March 2nd, 2026 as a result of an automobile accident.  She was born January 17th, 1945, the daughter of Isom Hayes McKinney and Jean Bowman McKinney.

Joyce lived almost the entirety of her life in Bakersville, NC, the community she so loved.  She attended Appalachian State Teachers’ College (now ASU), and she enjoyed a varied worklife – at the local bank, post office, florist shop, the Swiss Chalet, and as a real estate agent.  Joyce also gave of her time as a volunteer in local endeavors, including the Mitchell County Library, the local chapter of the DNC, and in several animal protection agencies.  Her love of animals extended to faithfully feeding the many beautiful birds in her yard and caring for any and every stray cat or dog that crossed her path.

She enjoyed traveling, often bringing home ideas for unusual or exotic plants to add to her flower gardens.  She especially loved taking trips to the beach to collect shells to add to her collection.  She loved music and took every opportunity that came her way to go dancing, even into her golden years.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her three beloved siblings.  She also left behind numerous loving nieces and nephews who are quick to share their many “Aunt Joyce” stories and who admired her independence and resolve to live her life on her own terms.  She will be missed by her family and her friends who loved her spirit.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Joyce’s life at 3:00 pm at Bakersville Baptist Church on Sunday, March 8th.  The family urges anyone wishing to make a donation in honor of her to choose one of her two favorite causes:

Mitchell County Public Library (18 North Mitchell Ave Bakersville, NC 28705) or Mitchell County Animal Rescue (2492 US-19E; Spruce Pine, NC 28777)

Henline – Hughes Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Beauchamp family.
