WAMY Community Action Plans Immersive Poverty Simulation

wamy-2

WAMY Community Action is set to host a North Carolina Poverty Simulation on Friday, April 17, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Burnsville Town Center. This interactive event is a unique learning experience designed to deepen the understanding of poverty. WAMY is currently seeking participants to take part in the simulation experience and volunteers to serve in service provider roles during the event.

Facilitated by the NC Community Action Association, the Poverty Simulation is an immersive training exercise. It places participants in the roles of individuals and families who are navigating real-life challenges. These challenges include critical issues related to employment, housing, childcare, transportation, healthcare, and financial stability. Through hands-on participation and guided discussion, attendees gain valuable insight into the difficult daily decisions and systemic barriers faced by many families in North Carolina.

There is no cost to participate. Individuals from all sectors are encouraged to attend, including nonprofit professionals, government officials, educators, business leaders, faith communities, and individuals with lived experience related to poverty.
