Spruce Pine’s nomination reflects the community’s resilience. In recent years the town has faced significant challenges, including arson fires that destroyed several downtown buildings and Hurricane Helene, which devastated the Lower Street area and destroyed the beloved walking bridge. Each time, the community has come together to rebuild—working to make Spruce Pine stronger than before.
