What is “Rock your Socks” all about?
Why March 21? The date for WDSD is the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. Down
Syndrome International encourages our friends all over the world to choose their own activities and events on WDSD to help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities. Wear brightly colored socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock… even 3 socks for 3 chromosomes! Also, the colors for Down syndrome awareness are blue and yellow, so you can show your support by wearing these colors.
