A McDowell County man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into unsafe living conditions and dangerous animals in the home.
Detective Billie Brown with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 58-year-old Derrick Suppes of Nebo with felony abuse of a disabled person with injury, two counts of attack by a dangerous dog, and misdemeanor child abuse. He was given a secured bond of 22-thousand dollars.
Deputies were called to a Nebo residence in the early morning hours of March 11 after a report of a woman in cardiac arrest. When they arrived, the woman was found deceased.
Authorities say several dangerous dogs were removed from the home, and investigators found an 11-year-old child and two adults with special needs living there without running water or indoor plumbing.
Officials say all three were removed from the home and placed with relatives with help from the McDowell County Department of Social Services.
McDowell County Emergency Services and Animal Control also assisted in the case.
