Congressman Chuck Edwards is continuing efforts to get several western North Carolina post offices reopened following storm damage.
Edwards says more than a year after Hurricane Helene, multiple locations across the region are still closed, including post offices in Micaville and Green Mountain in Yancey County.
He recently pushed for action in Congress by adding language to a federal funding bill that would require the U.S. Postal Service to provide a plan for reopening those facilities.
According to reports, the proposal would force USPS to report back to Congress within 90 days with details on how service will be restored in affected communities.
Edwards has called the continued closures unacceptable, saying residents still lack reliable access to mail services.
