French Broad Electric has partnered with the Town of Burnsville on installation of Burnsville’s first ever charging station for electric vehicles. The Charge Point is located at 215 W. Foothills Conservancy Acquires 130 Acres in McDowell County

On Sept. 9, Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina purchased 130 acres along N.C. Highway 80 and Buck Creek in McDowell County, between Marion and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Railroad Scheduled To Be Closed for Repair

CSX Transportation has scheduled the crossing(s) listed below for closure and repair.  This will necessitate rerouting traffic.  Signage will be in place marking detour routes.  All crossings are generally closed anywhere from 2-5 days.  This can change, with or without notice, due to unforeseen circumstances.  Inclement weather could cause track maintenance delays or rescheduling.  ...(more)

Mitchell Transportation Grant to Fund Fixed Route

Mitchell County Transportation will use a $100,000 grant to fund a new “fixed route” in Spruce Pine. The grant from the National Rural Transit Community Rides Program, will increase mobility and access and help prevent people from having to walk long distances on a dangerous highway. Untreated Wastewater Discharge

The Town of Burnsville had a discharge of untreated wastewater from our wastewater collection system at a sewer main line located at the intersection of East Main Street and Meadow Road of approximately 1000 gallons. Mitchell Sheriff’s Department’s Newest Employee Will Work for Food

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department has a new cop on patrol. As the newest Sheriff’s Office employee, Drago joins the team to specialize in search and rescue and drug confiscations. Drago is a 2 year old handsome, black Shepherd/Malinois. He was purchased for $11,000 at OnPoint K9 in Kentucky.  This is the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department’s second K-9 officer. ...(more)

Burnsville Water Treatment Plant Receives Honor From The State

The N.C. Division of Water Resources has honored 64 water treatment plants, including Burnsville, for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards in 2020.  The division’s Public Water Supply Section awarded the facilities the prestigious N.C.
