Judge Alexander Lyerly Honored

Retired District Court Judge Alexander Lyerly was recently honored at area courthouses. Yancey BOE Votes to Close Bee Log Elementary

According to the National Park Service, the Blue Ridge Parkway, which goes through both Mitchell and Yancey counties, had the most guests with more than 16,000,0000 recreation visits. Health Corporation of America May Acquire Mission Hospital

Hospital Corporation of America of Nashville, Tennessee has signed a letter of intent to acquire Mission Hospital.  In a news release, Mission said its board voted unanimously to execute the letter of intent with HCA, a for-profit health care company which operates 177 hospitals and 119 surgery centers in the United States and the United Kingdom. McDowell Emergency Services to Train at Old McDowell Hospital

McDowell Fire Department will use the old McDowell Hospital building to perform some training exercises on Saturday, March 24 from about 7:30 a.m. to noon. The fire department will simulate a rescue on the 2nd floor of the old hospital, breaching a window in the back. Signage has been posted stating there is training in progress. Exploitation of Children Arrest

Over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend, local, tribal, state and federal law enforcement agencies conducted an operation that was focused on the exploitation of children and the predators involved.
