The Weaverville Police Department is reporting that the Walmart Store in Weaverville was evacuated Tuesday night (8/13/19) after a bomb threat. Police Officers responded to the store around 7 pm. A 66 year old Yancey County man died Saturday after being thrown from a motorcycle on Hwy 197 North. Michael Bennett of Green Mountain was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle around 11 am when he apparently turned his head to speak with passenger Debora Grindstaff and veered off the right side of the road. An Avery County woman recently discovered here bank account had been emptied by a scammer who apparently gained access to her account when she was purchasing gas.
