Authorities are warning local residents to be wary of scams prompting them to send money or buy gift cards. A newly revealed Drug Enforcement Administration database confirms rural counties were hit hardest by the opioid epidemic in North Carolina. Installation was completed this week of the first of three artistic telescopes on the west end of Burnsville. The first scope is 21 feet with metal cages of aluminum LED lighting and 2800 blown glass orbs. This is the smallest of the three. The colors represent the Appalachian sunset over the mountains.
