I-40 Challenge Ends with Zero Fatalities

As anyone knows who traveled over the Thanksgiving holiday, state troopers were out in full force monitoring the roadways in an attempt to ensure safe travel. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol participated in the Thanksgiving I-40 Challenge, a joint operation among seven other states along the I-40 corridor. New DSS Director for Mitchell County

Mitchell County Commissioners have hired a new director for the Department of Social Services. Sara Spotila from Hendersonville has been hired to head the department beginning January 1st. The former director,  Paula Holtsclaw resigned in September to join Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge.  Spotila has an impressive resume. Two Students at McDowell High School Charged

(News Release from McDowell Sheriff’s Department) Deputies  have charged two 17-year-old McDowell High students with having drugs on the campus. Hise Settles Campaign Finance Matter

The Bipartisan State Board of Elections & Ethics Enforcement has unanimously entered a settlement under which the Ralph Hise for NC Senate committee agreed to “disgorge funds in the amount of $500, and reimburse the State Board in the amount of $4,000 for expenses incurred in the course of its investigation” into campaign finance-related issues with that committee. Grant Awarded To Yancey County Sheriff Office
