Burnsville Little Theatre Presents Reading of “The Andersonville Trial”

January 13, 2019 @ 3:00 pm

The Burnsville Little Theatre will have a reading of Saul Levitt’s powerful courtroom drama “The Andersonville Trial” Sunday, January 13th at 3:00pm at the Yancey County Library.  The drama is about a famous event in American history: the 1865 military trial of Henry Wirz, who was the commander of the Confederate prison at Andersonville Georgia during the civil war. “The Andersonville Trial” is an absorbing and thoughtful drama raising the question of when the responsibility of the individual to his conscience transcends any power of authority. The play was produced on Broadway and later as a made for TV movie and was honored with a Peabody award along with an Emmy in 1971. The BLT has selected the play to be read as a possible Spring production. The reading is open to the public and if you have an interest in courtroom drama or Civil War history this should be of interest. The Yancey County Library is located on School Circle in Burnsville. For more information call 682-2609.
