The Classic Movie Club has chosen the gripping, suspenseful film “The Night Of The Hunter” for their August screening to be shown Monday, August 19th at 7:00 pm at the Yancey Theatre. This 1955 masterpiece Was sadly the only film ever directed by the formidable English actor Charles Laughton and was the inspiration for many new directors to follow. The film stars Robert Mitchum as one of the most memorable screen villains of all time and it’s a role that he believes to be his best work ever. The cast also includes Shelly Winters who is very effective as the widow Willa Harper and the silent screen star Lillian Gish as an elderly gun toting woman who shelters lost children, a role she plays to perfection. I doubt if you ever will hear the old hymn “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms” again without thinking of this movie. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to see “The Night Of The Hunter” a true classic once again on the big screen. Also on the bill is chapter seven of the 1952 “Commando Cody” serial “Radar Men From The Moon”. Everyone is invited to join with the Classic Movie Club for the screening of these two films from Hollywood’s “Golden Years”. There are no ticket sales for these events but your donations are appreciated and needed to keep our program going.
