High Peaks Winter Stroll at Black Mountain Campground

February 15, 2020 @ 9:00 am

Saturday morning, February 15, the NC High Peaks Trail Association offers another good winter stroll — at the Black Mountain Campground.  A special feature is a visit to Setrock Creek Falls — described as a “sliding, zigzagging falls about 60 ft. high” in Kevin Adams’s North Carolina Waterfalls, 3rd ed.  This stroll will be a bit longer than usual — maximum distance 3.5 miles — but is over flat ground and much on a graded trail.  Hikers also have the option of shortening the hike after viewing the falls.

Hikers can meet at 9:00 a.m. in Burnsville at Roses Shopping Center (Northeast corner nearest the traffic light) to form carpools.  (No van)  At 10:00 a.m., hikers will join the hike leader at the kiosk in the parking lot across from the Black Mountain Campground.  Please contact the hike leader, Carolyn Raichle (407-619-6136 or carolynraichle@gmail.com) if you have questions.

Bring lunch, water, snacks, warm clothes, and rain gear if the forecast is threatening.  Hiking poles are suggested, as there is one creek crossing on the longer hike.  Leashed dogs are welcome.

As always, check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for last-minute changes due to weather.
