Memorial Service Honoring Soldiers Killed in Combat

May 26, 2018 @ 1:00 pm

The American Legion will sponsor a Memorial Service paying tribute and honoring the men and women of our Armed Forces who died while engaged in combat, including the War on Terrorism. The service will be held at Faith Baptist Church on Saturday, May 26th at 1:00 p.m. The guest speaker will be Holt Whitson, pastor at Halls Chapel Baptist Church.

Memorial Day, once referred to as Decoration Day, was designated by Congress as a national holiday set aside to honor America’s military service members who died fighting in a war.  On Memorial Day, and during Memorial Day weekend, communities customarily come together to celebrate the lives and memories of more than 600,000 men and women who gave the last full measure of devotion to our country. The meaning and purpose of our Nation’s Memorial Day observances can best be served and fulfilled by attendance and participation in services paying tribute to and memorializing the lives of our combat dead.  The memorial service at Faith Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 26th offers a time for public recognition and personal acknowledgement that Memorial Day is a national holiday set aside to honor service members who died fighting in a war.

Faith Baptist Church is located on Highway 197N in Burnsville, NC.
