Temporary repairs have been completed and the Cross is illuminating again on the Phillips Knob Fire Tower in Burnsville. Permanent repairs are being planned.
The investigation into vandalism and theft of parts is continuing by the Yancey County Sheriff’s Department after the cross was vandalized earlier in the month.
The “Shine On Group” has received many offers of donations to support the cause and says they received donations of trail cameras for temporary security but are working to install a permanent surveillance system.
