Phyllis Young Townsend

Phyllis Young Townsend, age 81, of Sunnybrook Lane in Spruce Pine, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on March 9, 1944 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Cordie English Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Robert and Carroll and her sisters; Betty, Doris, Thelma and Becky.

Phyllis was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and going to church. She enjoyed working in her garden, her flowers and canning. Phyllis was known as one of the best cooks and she made the ‘best ever’ chicken-and-dumplins. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother as well as being devoted to all of her family.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of sixty-five years; Wayne Townsend, her sons; Kevin and Ken Townsend, and her sister; Jackie Cornett.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Green Valley Baptist Church. A graveside service and burial will follow in the Green Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev’s. Bryan Griffith and Frank Osborne officiating.
