David B. Wheeler announced today that he is running for Clerk of Superior Court in Mitchell County in the GOP primary. Wheeler’s campaign is focused on expanding free legal clinic services for senior citizens, ensuring access to legal help for minor matters without requiring residents to hire an attorney, and assisting the community in addressing unresolved Hurricane Helene debris removal issues.
Wheeler acknowledged that some may argue debris removal falls outside the traditional scope of the Clerk’s Office, but said extraordinary circumstances require leadership and coordination.
“When a problem affects families across the county, public officials shouldn’t hide behind narrow job descriptions,” Wheeler said. “I’m committed to helping people navigate every available avenue for Helene relief and working with other elected officials.”
