Grace Lee Thomas Allen, age 91, of the Blue Rock Community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2025.
She was born December 13, 1934, to the late Arnold Jesse Thomas and Pearl Woody Thomas. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by 13 siblings: Bonnie Davis, Hattie Mae Geouge, Floyd, Paul, Jeter, Arvil, Jim, Bill, Joe, Ben, Johnny, Dan, and Sam Thomas.
She was a woman of deep faith and was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church for many years. She was employed by Baxter Technology but her greatest joy was volunteering with The Baptist Children’s Home and Hospice later in life.
She was a Godly wife and mother and a role model to everyone in her family. Grace lived a long full life surrounded by the people she loved. She cherished time spent with her family at home in Yancey County, and loved working in her beautiful flower garden, pulling weeds, feeding the birds, raising chickens and making lye soap. She also had an adventurous side and loved camping and traveling to almost every state in an RV with her husband of 66 years. She was an avid reader that always had a book in her hands. Her home was always warm, welcoming, full of love, good home cooking, and the perfect glass of sweet tea. It was the gathering place for countless memories that her family will hold close forever.
She is survived by her children: Ken Allen (Jane), Dinah McGee (Ted), Lila Hughes (Rodney), Jane Hamilton (Paul), and Tracy Edwards (Chris); grandchildren: Robey Allen, Scott McGee, Amy Ingham, Trent Allen, Danna Yelton, Jason Hughes, Joshua Hughes, Kye Hamilton, Jenna May, Alanna Wojciechowski, Olivia Edwards, Samuel Edwards, Graham Edwards, and 17 great grandchildren.
Grace will always be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her loved ones, and her infectious laughter. We will all cherish memories sitting and rocking on the porch, singing, laughing, and spending precious time with her. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2025. Reverend David May will officiate. Interment will follow in the McGee Family Cemetery in Burnsville, NC.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of the Blue Ridge and The Greens of Spruce Pine for their compassionate care and support.
