Shirley Gouge Ingram, 87, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. Born in Bakersville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Romulus and Essie Gouge.
Mrs. Ingram was a graduate of Steed Business College and continued her education at Mars Hill University. She served as Director of the Mitchell County Health Department before co-founding High Valley Construction with her husband, William “W. C.” Ingram. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Ingram will be fondly remembered for her loving and gentle spirit, generosity, love of the water—whether beach, lake, or pool—deep patriotism and proud VA volunteer service, care for all creatures great and small, and her enduring devotion to her children, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ingram was a proud sister of Alpha Phi International Fraternity and an honorary black belt with The Dojo Organization of North Carolina. She was also a member of DAV Chapter 58 and a longtime member of Roan Mountain Baptist Church, where she previously served as treasurer.
Mrs. Ingram is survived by her children, Donna Ingram Buchanan of Greenville, South Carolina, and Mark Ingram (Debbie Singleton) of Greenville, South Carolina. She is also survived by her four granddaughters: Ashley Buchanan Jones (Justin) of Elgin, South Carolina; Brooke Ingram Chapman (Alex) of Greenville, South Carolina; Brandi Ingram Sloan (Jeff) of Greenville, South Carolina; and Chey Ingram of St. John, USVI. Additionally, she is survived by three great-granddaughters, Madeline and Everleigh Jones and Nora Sloan; one great-grandson, William Chapman; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ingram was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Charles Ingram; her siblings, Hettie Burgner (Harold), Myrtle Ingram (Luther), Ralph Gouge (Dixie), Ada “Dee” Potter (Kenova), and Ethel “Missy” Gouge; and four siblings who died in childhood.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on January 11, 2026 at Malone Gouge Cemetery.
