Tax Relief for Western North Carolina Families
This legislation eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, which means up to $10,500 more in take-home pay for NC-11 workers. The Child Tax Credit is increased to $2,200 per child, and families with two children are seeing nearly $11,000 more per year.
This means money covering groceries, childcare, and the rising cost of keeping a household running in Western North Carolina.
Heather Kell, a waitress and single mom in Hendersonville, benefited this season with a $4,000 tax refund — a reminder of how our federal tax code can and should work for hardworking Americans. I shared her story with President Trump, and he invited Heather to speak at the White House — a well-deserved honor for a woman who works tirelessly to provide for her son.
H.R. 1 also protects seniors by making Social Security tax-free for 88% of seniors through a $6,000 bonus deduction — $12,000 for married couples filing jointly. For families who spent their lifetime building for their family’s future, the Death Tax exemption has been raised to $15 million for individuals and $30 million for couples. This increase gives grandparents and retirees across NC-11 peace of mind that their legacy can stay in the family.
For families welcoming children, the new Trump Investment Accounts give children a head start on financial independence, with a $1,000 federal contribution at birth that could grow to $243,000 by age 55.
Tax Relief for Farmers and Small Businesses
For our farmers and small businesses, H.R. 1 provides certainty and growth.
The 20% small business deduction is now permanent.
USDA commodity payment limits were raised.
100% bonus depreciation is back for qualifying purchases.
For WNC farmers, H.R. 1 raises the estate tax exemption up to $30 million, helping family farms pass from one generation to the next without being forced to sell off land or equipment to cover the tax burden. These changes allow local farms and businesses to invest, hire, and strengthen our communities.
H.R. 1 gives relief for workers, seniors, families, and local businesses, addressing the priorities Western North Carolinians have been asking for.
