Commander Chris Ledford of the VFW Post 5483 which meets in Mars Hill presented a check to President Margo Carter of Mountain Piecemakers Quilt Guild on May 12 to help with guild community projects and operating expenses. Accompanying Commander Ledford for the presentation were Brian Eubanks, Quartermaster, and Tom
and Angela Surber of the VFW.
The guild greatly appreciates the support of our community. We want to acknowledge the other sponsorships we have received this year: Mt. Mitchell Detachment of the Marine Corps League, St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church Women’s Guild of Mars Hill, and Knights of Columbus Council 12233 of Weaverville. Thank you to each of these
groups. We will be distributing Hero quilts to veterans privately. Due to constraints in our finances, we will not be able to offer a public presentation on the Town Square this year.
Honoring our veterans is very important to our members and we will continue to accept nominations from the community for residents of Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties for a quilt. See our website for more information https://mpqg.wildapricot.org.
We also make and donate Linus quilts for children in crisis to area organizations that support our children. Mountain Piecemakers will be participating in festivals in the three counties we serve
this summer. You can pick up forms to nominate a local veteran for a quilt at our booth.
The guild plans to display our 2026 opportunity quilt as well as patriotic quilted items to celebrate America’s 250 th anniversary at these locations: Rhododendron Festival in Bakersville, June 19-20, at the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair in Burnsville on August 7-8, at the
Old Timey Fall Festival in Burnsville on September 26, and the Heritage Festival in Mars Hill on Oct. 3, as well as the dedication ceremony for the VFW park near Mars Hill on Veterans Day. Stop by our booth at the festival near you.
Mountain Piecemakers is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that offers educational opportunities for those interested in quilting, alongside our community service projects.
