Roderick ‘Roc’ Hall

Roderick ‘Roc’ Hall, age 94, of Plumtree, passed away Friday, November 14, 2025.

Born on October 24, 1931 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Rev. J.P Hall and the late Nelle Hughes Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, his brothers; Jimmy and Tom Hall and his sisters; Elizabeth Hall and Margaret Hall Cudd.

Roc was a U.S. Army veteran where he served as an Assistant to the Chaplain during the Korean War. He attended King College and East Tennessee State University. He retired from the Avery County School System where he served as teacher and principal. He also was a Christmas Tree grower and cattle farmer until he experienced declining health.

In his early years, he attended the Plumtree Presbyterian Church and became an Elder in 1959. In 1963, he helped to organize the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher for years and choir director until his health declined and he was unable to continue.

Graveside services and interment will be on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Hughes Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Mathes officiating.

Left to cherish his memories are his sister-in-law; Carol Hall, his niece; Rachel Townsend and husband, Brandon, his great nieces; Haley, Hannah and Abigail, his great nephew; Samuel, and his extended family including additional nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a Thank You to Amorem Health, Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center in Boone, Dr. Alfred Earwood and his caregiver and friend, Billi for their care of Roc during his illness.
