MCAR Launches “The Feeding Mitchell County Pets Project”

Mitchell County Animal Rescue (MCAR) is pleased to announce their new initiative, The Feeding Mitchell County Pets Project, to help feed family pets in Mitchell County. This program provides free pet food for pets owned by Mitchell County families from low income households, low income seniors on fixed incomes, and veterans. Funding for this program was provided by The Fund for Mitchell County, an affiliate fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. The Fund for Mitchell County is an endowment created to support the charitable needs of our community.

“Once again The Fund for Mitchell County and the CFWNC has stepped up to support our programs, our animals, and our citizens,” said MCAR Director Amber Lowery. “The Fund for Mitchell County is doing so much to help our local residents and we couldn’t be more excited to offer this program to our neighbors who need it.”

Over the past few years as supply costs have risen, more and more families have requested assistance feeding their beloved pets. In fact, the pet food bank is the most requested program MCAR offers. It is always MCAR’s goal to keep families and their pets together. “By offering free pet food to Mitchell county families in need, we can help prevent the relinquishment of pets due to pet food scarcity,” Lowery said.

MCAR would like to encourage any pet owner in Mitchell County who qualifies for assistance and needs pet food to call us today to get more information on this program at 828-765-6952.
