Firefighters are fighting a fast moving wildfire along 19E near the Avery and Mitchell County line, near the Avery County Airport. The fire was first reported early Wednesday afternoon (4/22/26). Traffic to Avery County was being detoured through Gouges Creek to Hanging Rock.
