The Mitchell County Economic Development Commission (EDC) and the Mayland Community College Small Business Center (SBC) are pleased to announce the signing of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to expand and strengthen the support available to local entrepreneurs and small businesses. Through this agreement, the two organizations will formalize their collaboration by creating a clear referral process: clients seeking entrepreneurial or small-business assistance from the EDC will first be connected with the SBC for business counseling, guidance, and foundational planning.
This strategic partnership underscores both organizations’ shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and impact, job creation and retention, and a thriving business environment in Mitchell County.
Under the MOU, the Mitchell County EDC and the Mayland SBC will collaborate to:
- Provide counseling and advisory services for new and existing small businesses.
- Develop and deliver targeted training workshops to help local entrepreneurs succeed.
- Coordinate outreach efforts to raise awareness of available business development resources.
- Share information and referrals to ensure business owners receive comprehensive support.
“This agreement is a true asset for our county,” said Bill Slagle, Executive Director of the Mitchell County EDC. “Partnering with the Mayland Small Business Center ensures entrepreneurs receive the expert guidance and practical tools they need to build strong businesses and create lasting jobs in Mitchell County.”
As the first step in their entrepreneurial journey, clients will be referred by the EDC to the SBC, where they will receive no-cost, confidential counseling and comprehensive guidance. Once clients have established strong business plans and strategies, the EDC will provide continued assistance through economic development resources, site selection support, and additional funding opportunities.
Morgan Buchanan, Director of the Mayland Community College Small Business Center, added: “Our mission is to empower local small businesses with the knowledge and resources they need to thrive. Working closely with the EDC allows us to deliver even greater impact by leveraging our shared expertise and connections throughout the region.”
The new agreement formalizes years of successful informal cooperation between the two organizations and signals their dedication to meeting the needs of Mitchell County’s growing and evolving business community.
Entrepreneurs and small business owners are encouraged to reach out to either organization to learn more about the new partnership and available services.
