Completion of D.A.R.E. Program at Yancey Elementary Schools

The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the completion of the D.A.R.E. program at all Yancey County elementary schools. Deputies Amber Ayers and Vanessa Potter led this year’s lessons, teaching students important skills in decision-making and substance abuse prevention.

Graduation ceremonies featured guest speakers District Attorney Seth Banks, District Court Judge Allie Leake, and Sheriff Shane Hilliard. Students also enjoyed visits from K9 Axel, K9 Jackie, and a special appearance by the Sheriff’s Office’s newest canine pup, Nuke Hansen, who quickly became a student favorite.

Sheriff Hilliard congratulated the students for their hard work and thanked teachers, parents, and school staff for supporting the program.
