Mitchell County Railroad Crossing Closure

rail

Mitchell County Railroad Crossing Closure CSX and Southern Commercial Development, will begin a rail maintenance project on Jan 12, 2026, working south through McDowell County. The project will last about 7 weeks (through approx. Feb 23, 2026). ️ Railroad crossings will be FULLY CLOSED (no traffic) for 2–5 days per crossing, depending on work needed. Crossings will NOT be closed for the entire project, only during their scheduled work window. Dates are estimates and may change due to field conditions. One-way in/out crossings will be reopened as quickly as possible, often within 24 hours or less. ️ Real-time updates are available on this interactive map, showing current closures and daily status. The map currently has 4 locations in Mitchell County if you zoom in and click on each one inside Mitchell, it will provide updates + closure days + times. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1nkbVwlWaRr0dxHFV3YcSj0wX-JATBuk&usp=sharing Please plan ahead and share with neighbors who may be impacted.
