
Two Bakersville residents are facing a combined 36 criminal charges following a traffic stop in western Yancey County that led to a major drug seizure.
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Kaleb Tipton conducted the traffic stop on April 4th, leading to the arrest of 48-year-old Edward Allen Byrd and 37-year-old Lacy Yvonne Burleson.
During the investigation, deputies reportedly seized about 28 grams of methamphetamine and 158 grams of methadone. Authorities say the amounts resulted in Level III trafficking charges.
Both Byrd and Burleson face numerous charges, including multiple counts of trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking opium or heroin, conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver controlled substances, and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances.
Officials say a total of 24 felony charges were filed between the two suspects.
Byrd is being held under a $1.35 million secured bond, while Burleson is being held under a $1.3 million secured bond.
