Ernest Yelton, age 79, of Fork Mountain Road in Bakersville, NC went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
He was born in Mitchell County to the late Fred and Willie Briggs Yelton. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Bertha Lee Miller Yelton; infant daughter, Melissa Yelton; sister, Lucille Lecrone; a brother, Bobby Yelton; and sister-in-law, Zula Yelton.
Ernest was a member of both Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Fork Mountain Fire Department.
He enjoyed catfishing in the Santee Cooper Lake in South Carolina, and hunting.
One of his favorite pastimes was visiting the local country stores and spending time hanging out with all the folks there.
He was a logger by trade and also worked at the sawmill for years.
He was known in the community for his talent of butchering hogs and processing them.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Steven and his wife, Julie, who both made him extremely proud; brother, J.B. Yelton of Fork Mountain; best friend, George Carroll Hughes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 26th at Yancey Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 12 p.m. with Preacher Mark McKinney officiating. Friends and family will then travel in procession to Ben Mosley Cemetery in Bakersville for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Yelton, Christian Harrell, Jason Yelton, Eli Yelton, Jeff Rapps, Wendell Bennett and Tim Boone. Honorary pallbearers will be David Boone, George Carroll Hughes and David Hughes.
Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help the family with expenses. Friends are welcome to visit the family at the home of his son, Steven located at 9043 NC-80 in Bakersville, NC.
