Madison County Schools Superintendent Will Hoffman has released a statement following the arrest of a teacher accused of indecent liberties with a student. As previously reported, Madison County High School teacher David Edmonds was arrested on Oct. 6 and issued a $20,000 secured bond.
The arrest came after an investigation began on Sept. 26 at the request of Madison County High School.
A statement provided by Hoffman said Edmonds, who has been with Madison County High School since 2016, has been suspended with pay as the investigation continues.
“The allegations were reported to law enforcement and, in accordance with state law, the school system suspended Mr. Edmonds with pay to allow for a thorough investigation by law enforcement and the school system. Mr. Edmonds currently remains on suspension. We will continue to cooperate with the Sheriff’s Department’s investigation while conducting our own investigation,” Hoffman said in his statement.
Hoffman said that due to confidentiality laws, Madison County Schools can’t provide further information about the matter.
According to court records, Edmonds posted bail or made a temporary financial agreement with the court for a temporary release from jail on Oct. 7 at 1:30 a.m. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 21.
